The Third Eye is a student-led, not-for-profit initiative founded by Aadya Shakti Aggarwal, a student of Calcutta International School, in the year 2023. Our mission is to spark meaningful conversations around topics that are often overlooked, stigmatized, or misunderstood—starting with menopause.
Despite being a natural and significant phase in a woman's life, menopause is rarely discussed openly, especially in the context of the family. The emotional and physical changes that come with it are frequently met with silence, confusion, or even dismissal. This lack of awareness not only isolates women but also affects the emotional dynamics within families.
At The Third Eye, we believe change begins at home. Our goal is to build empathetic and supportive family environments, where every member—from children to spouses to older generations—understands the realities of menopause. By encouraging awareness and open dialogue, we hope to reduce unnecessary stress and unproductive conflicts that often arise from misunderstanding. Instead, we aim to replace these with compassion, support, and shared strength.
We also address the intergenerational cycle of silence and stigma. Too often, mothers-in-law who received little support during their own journeys inadvertently pass on the same neglect to the next generation. Breaking this cycle of generational trauma is central to our mission—we strive to replace silence with understanding, and indifference with empathy.
Through educational seminars, expert-led discussions, and community outreach—including talks from specialists like Dr. Basab Mukherjee—we work to empower not just women, but entire families and communities. Our sessions are tailored to older children and adults, focusing on recognising peri as well as post menopausal symptoms and fostering an environment of mutual support.
Together, we can create a ripple effect of compassion and understanding—one home, one family, one conversation at a time.
