Empowering Girls Through Hygiene Awareness

On a bright Sunday morning, The Third Eye, in collaboration with dedicated volunteers and local partners, conducted a heartfelt outreach program at Sarada Ramakrishna Mahapeeth Trust. The initiative focused on promoting menstrual hygiene awareness among young girls in the rural community of Magrahat, South 24 Parganas.

The primary purpose of this event was the distribution of sanitary napkins and proper disposal equipment, along with essential stationery and chocolates to bring smiles to the faces of these young girls. But more importantly, it was a day of learning, empowerment, and open conversations—topics that are all too often cloaked in silence.

Our team engaged in a friendly and informative educational session about menstruation, its natural role in a girl's life, and the importance of using sanitary products safely and hygienically. Through real-life examples and simple demonstrations, we spoke about how to use and dispose of sanitary napkins properly—emphasizing both personal health and environmental responsibility.

The girls listened attentively, many of them opening up with questions that reflected not just curiosity, but a deep need for knowledge, comfort, and reassurance. The environment was one of trust and sisterhood, where no question was dismissed, and every girl was reminded that her body is natural and worthy of care and respect.

To ensure continued impact, we also installed sanitary disposal bins and provided guidance to local caregivers on maintaining hygiene infrastructure. The smiles, laughter, and genuine gratitude shared by the students were a testament to how transformative a small gesture can be.

Each girl left not only with a hygiene kit and some sweet treats, but also with something far more valuable: confidence, awareness, and the feeling of being seen and supported.

The Third Eye remains committed to breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation and believes that education and empathy are key to creating lasting change. This event was a small step—but a significant one—towards a more informed, respectful, and empowered future for young girls everywhere.

Together, let’s continue the conversation—because real change starts when we listen, share, and act.
